PEOPLE OF THE LAND
Living with Nature

Sorry, this page is being re-constructed

Throughout New Zealand there are people who live in nature, or for whom nature is an important part of their life. These may be:

  • people who have a nature-related professional activity (in agriculture, fishing, the tourism industry, outdoor education; scientists and professional conservationists),
  • people who have chosen to be close to nature, by settling in rural, 'backcountry' places: they may be postman, retailer, or teacher; or they may be writers, photographers, artists;
  • people who are active in nature, in the course of their hobby, or as part of a civic or political commitment: they might be mountaineers, or anglers; they might be conservationists.

We will share their daily life, get to know their environment, observe nature through their activity, if possible throughout the seasons.
We will try to share some of their knowledge, acquire some of their experience.
And thanks to these examples we will learn about the many ways people love nature, the many ways nature matters to people, and the many ways nature can bring benefit to people.
