This is another fine example of these valleys
radiating from Tongariro that bear the mark of the last ice age.
Typically, the glacier has sculpted the valley sides into two steep
and smooth ridges. The northern one is clearly visible in this picture.
Ngaruhoe, only about 2500 years old, did not exist at the time.
