The bright blue green of the lakes both contrasts
sharply with and complements the already vivid range of ochre,
black and grey hues displayed in the rocks around Red Crater.
Fumeroles are visible on the slopes in the upper right of the
picture.
Located at the beginning of the descent into the Oturere Valley,
after the steep ascent from Mangatepopo, the Emerald Lakes offer
the most attractive of resting places.
