Mountain cabbage trees and
native mountain cedars in beech forest. Photo

In the western part of the
park mountain beech forest is commonly interspersed
with specimens of theses two species. The mountain
cabbage tree Cordyline indivisa (Maori
tooii) has distinctly broader leaves than the
common lowland cabbage tree Cordyline australis
(Maori ti kouka). The cedars are kaikawaka (Librocedrus
bidwillii), the only New Zealand representatives
of the cedar family with their lowland relatives
kawaka (L. plumosa).
