Approaching Milford Sound from the sea, glimpse of Mt Pembroke through the mist.
Photo NC.

"Fiordland is a magnificent wilderness of great glacier-carved fiords, emerald green lakes and rugged bushclad mountains. From its wild west coast 14 steep-walled fiords probe deeply into the forested heartland and in places almost link with the great lakes of the east, Lakes Te Anau and Manapouri. Preserved as a 1.2 million hectare world heritage park, Fiordland is the largest national park in New Zealand and one of the largest in the world". From John Hall-Jones: Discover Fiordland - An Illustrated Guide, Introduction.
